Inspired by Nature, her paintings have a direct simplicity whilst frequently carrying allegorical or symbolic undertones………icons of nature seen with the innocent gaze of the child. They engage with the metaphysical behind the physical reality……are realistic while playing with what is real. The paintings are the result of the objective observation of nature and seek to connect through that to the shared harmonious whole of being……..studies of the ordinary made extraordinary in the light of the moment.
“When I am out in nature I often get moments when I lose myself in time. Everything looks brighter and clearer than usual and there is a real sense of beautiful inter-connectedness and calm order. My paintings are about these moments. Painting everyday reality but with this extra dimension has been a long journey of experimentation and study. I began to take the natural elements and arrange them in compositions based on a 500 year old system of harmonic and geometric modes. This helps to speak about not only the sensuality of the exterior but the concept of order and wholeness that I am experiencing, the experience where the thing you have seen time and again, suddenly seems so beautiful that you can’t imagine why you didn’t notice it before.” Cheryl Howeld
